If I went deeper than 50 to 60 inches I started catching catfish and burbot.

I found them with 20 to 60 inch leader lengths (not sure what that is metric, 1/4 way up then slightly past half way up). Green Sunfish can be caught anywhere from the bank to the lily pads in the middle of the river to right in front of you then out to the lily pads. Green Sunfish: Spawn and go to the shore immediately at the Kayak spot on the right side of the map and look left up the bank / shore line. The catfish and bottom feeders hang out toward the bottom so if you start getting them shorten your leader length a bit to avoid them. They can weigh up to 14 lbs there which will be a long fight using light gear targeting panfish. If you get a larger catfish on light gear on the line at the Mudwater location you might be fighting it for a while. When I fish anywhere on Mudwater if I go deeper than half way with the leader length I usually end up starting to catch bottom feeding fish (Catfish, Bowfin, Carp, Burbot).

The ultralight gear you start the game with works just fine. They only very rarely even weigh 1 pound. Use a light or ultralight setup (rod and reel) no more than 5lbs. You won't be casting to where they are either targeting panfish.Īnother tip, as you should always try to do, is to make sure you're fishing at peak times when the weather forecast claims fish activity will be highest. There are pickerel at mudwater but I've never had any break my line. In both places for both fish I used redworms and a #8 or #10 hook.Ī steel leader is NOT needed. Here's where I found them and how I catch them.
